Joy Wilson, a devoted educator and loved member of the community, passed away on October 16, 2024, in Dallas, Texas, at the age of 84. Joy Jenkins was born on April 15, 1940, in Midlothian, Texas, she dedicated her life to nurturing the minds of her students and creating lasting memories with friends and family.

Joy’s passion for education led her to obtain a Master of Education degree from North Texas University, where she was also a proud member of the Kappa Delta Sorority. She began her teaching career in Dallas and later joined the Garland Independent School District, where she made a significant impact until her retirement. Joy's commitment to her students and her profession was evident throughout her career, reflecting her belief in the transformative power of education.

Outside of her professional life, Joy enjoyed a vibrant social life, frequently visiting the Side Street Bar to participate in karaoke. She cherished the time spent with staff and friends, often creating joyful connections that underscored her warm and engaging personality.

Joy was married to Hugh D. Wilson on August 12, 1961, forging a partnership that flourished with mutual respect and love. She is survived by her husband, Hugh D. Wilson; her son, Jeff Wilson; her nieces, Jana Beckner, Sherrie McIntire, Carrie Sibley; and her nephews, Dane Wells, Grady O'Brien, Paul O'Brien, Patrick O'Brien; great nieces, Katy Williams, Shanna O'Brien, Mandy; great nephews, Dakota, Kylee, Devin. Joy was preceded in death by her parents, Homer Jenkins and Sally Boyd Jenkins, and siblings, Rex Jenkins and Yvonne Janson.

Her legacy will endure not only in the lives of those she taught but also in the hearts of her family and friends and especially her Karaoke family who will remember her vibrant spirit and unwavering dedication to education, family, and song.

A visitation will be held at Anderson Clayton Funeral Home in Terrell, Texas, on October 23, 2024, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM. A graveside service will take place at Able Springs Cemetery in Terrell on October 24, 2024, at 10:00 AM.

Joy Wilson’s life was a testament to the importance of community, love, and lifelong learning. She will be profoundly missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
