Jerry Lynn Smithey, a treasured member of his community, passed away on February 19, 2025, in Royse City, Texas, at the age of 79. Born on October 5, 1945, in Ennis, Texas.
He retired from General Motors, where he exhibited a strong work ethic and commitment to his craft. In his personal life, Jerry was known for his adventurous spirit, enjoying hobbies such as riding his beloved Harley Davidson, fishing, and hunting. He had a deep appreciation for music and found joy in playing whenever he could. Most importantly, Jerry cherished the time he spent with his family, fostering relationships that were the cornerstone of his life.
On April 25, 2006, Jerry married the love of his life, Vanessa Nelson Smithey, in Rockwall, Texas. Together, they created a warm and welcoming home that was filled with laughter, love, and countless memories.
Jerry is survived by his devoted wife, Vanessa; his sisters, Phyllis Pack and Shelley Oliver, and her husband Mace; his half-brother, John Earl Smithey and wife Nancy; his daughter, Carol Wigley, and her husband Chuck; and his grandson, RT Gentry, and wife Jessica. He also leaves behind granddaughters Candice Willhoit and her husband Chance, Chandler LaFerney and her husband David, as well as great-grandchildren Karson Kent, Suzie Gentry, Jaylynn Gentry, Case Willhoit, and Carter Willhoit. Jerry is remembered by numerous extended family members who will carry his spirit forward.
He is preceded in death by his beloved family members, including his grandparents Noel and Lillie Cassel; his parents Olan and Odette Smithey, Betty and Homer Parker, and RT and Ginny Milner; as well as his daughter Sue Lynn Gentry and granddaughter Celeste Ann Wigley.
Jerry Lynn Smithey’s legacy of love, laughter, and adventure will forever be cherished by those who knew him. He will be deeply missed but lovingly remembered in the hearts of his family and friends.
A memorial service will be held on February 23, 2025, at 3:00 PM at Anderson Clayton Funeral Home Chapel, located at 301 W Nash St, Terrell, TX 75160.
