Charlotte Ann Riley Rodgers, age 80, passed away on February 4, 2023. She was born on August 22, 1942 in Lawrence, Texas to Oscar Kelso Riley and Myrtle Louise Mayfield Riley.
Charlotte was the firstborn girl grandchild of the family and was proud of that. Her earliest years were spent living in the Terrell, Texas area until the family moved to Kleberg, Texas on a chicken farm with 30,000 to 40,000 baby chickens that they raised. This is also where Charlotte continued her grade schooling until the family relocated to Seagoville, Texas and this is where she graduated High School. Charlotte was an excellent student and achieved her goal of completing her entire 4 years of High School in only 3 years. After graduation Charlotte worked a couple of years for Sears & Robuck. She thoroughly enjoyed her employment there and earned a written praise from her supervisor that she has framed and hanging her bedroom to this day. Charlotte was very intelligent, organized and always determined and to get the job done. She would “grow” these talents and use them when she married Donald Jay Rodgers in September of 1969. Together they spent 30 plus years as franchise owner/ operators of several Roto-Rooter franchises across Texas, from Midland/ Odessa to Palestine and several in between. She and Donald enjoyed the challenge of opening a new franchise. They put in a lot of work to make it successful. Back then this type of business relied heavily on phone book yellow pages to generate business. In West Texas, to generate income for their business her and Donald delivered phone books door to door and over time it was one of their most successful businesses. In 2001 Charlotte became a widow after Don passed away where she then moved to Waxahachie, Texas where she worked for a few years at the First Baptist Church of Waxahachie. Years later she moved to the Cedar Creek/ Kaufman area to help care for her mother Myrtle and volunteer her time at different places around. During this time is when Charlotte became reacquainted with Reagan Glenn whom she had known since the 8th grade in Seagoville. They enjoyed the next few years rekindling their loving relationship up until her passing.
Charlotte is preceded in death by her husband Donald Rodgers and her parents.
Those left with cherished memories are her “sweetie” Reagan Glenn; “younger” brother Ken Riley and wife Janie; nephew Scott Riley; stepson Jay Rodgers and wife Shirley; step daughters: Tammy Hebert and husband Charlie and Debbie Coleman and husband Ken along with a host of other beloved nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great grandchildren and numerous family and friends who will miss her dearly.
